Intoxicated Rajesh Khanna Once Yelled at God; Dimple Kapadia Feared He Had Gone Mad

Legendary actor Rajesh Khanna, widely regarded as Indian cinema’s first superstar, once revealed in a 1990 interview that he had an intense moment of despair and anger that left his wife Dimple Kapadia and staff fearing for his sanity.

During a rough patch in his career, when seven consecutive films flopped, Rajesh Khanna admitted that he consumed alcohol heavily and, in the early hours of the morning, went up to his house terrace. Alone in the dark at 3 AM, he yelled at God to vent his frustration. Rajesh recalled, “One after the other, seven films flopped. It was raining, pitch dark, and I was alone on the terrace. I lost control and shouted, ‘Lord, do not test us poor people so harshly that we deny Your existence.’”

Dimple and Staff Feared the Worst
Rajesh further explained that Dimple and his staff rushed to the terrace, thinking he had gone mad. He said, “Success had affected me so much that I could not handle failure. I was overwhelmed and let my emotions take over.”

Marriage to Dimple Kapadia and Personal Struggles
Rajesh Khanna married Dimple Kapadia in 1973 when he was 31 and she was just 16. Following their marriage, Dimple stepped away from films, and the couple had two daughters. However, after nine years, their relationship broke down, and Dimple left with their children. Rajesh, known for his fiery temperament, struggled with declining stardom and a series of flops, which led him to alcohol and contributed to the breakdown of their marriage.

Life After Separation
Although Rajesh Khanna and Dimple separated, they never legally divorced. After their separation, Dimple returned to films, while Rajesh Khanna’s life continued under intense media scrutiny, including his rumored association with actress Tina Munim.
