Haq OTT Release: Watch Yami Gautam’s Film on Shah Bano’s Landmark Legal Battle from Home

The courtroom drama Haq, starring Emraan Hashmi and Yami Gautam, has been making headlines ever since its theatrical release. Based on one of India’s most talked-about legal battles, the film explores the struggles of Shah Bano, a Muslim woman who fought for her rights in the Supreme Court after being abandoned by her husband. While the movie didn’t make a significant impact at the box office, it is now all set for a digital release.

About the Film

Directed by Suparn Verma, Haq revolves around Shazia Bano (played by Yami Gautam), a character inspired by Shah Bano. She takes on her estranged husband Abbas (Emraan Hashmi) in a gripping courtroom battle for justice, as he attempts to deny her and their children their rightful support. Emraan Hashmi portrays Abbas, based on the real-life lawyer Muhammad Ahmad Khan. The story highlights the courage and resilience of Shah Bano in the face of societal and legal challenges.

OTT Release Details

According to social media reports, Haq will be available for streaming on Netflix from 2 January 2026. The official confirmation of the release date is still awaited, but audiences can expect to watch this compelling legal drama from the comfort of their homes.

The Controversy

Prior to its theatrical release on 7 November 2025, Haq faced legal hurdles. Shah Bano’s legal heirs filed a petition in the Indore High Court seeking a stay on the film, alleging that the courtroom drama hurt Muslim sentiments. Despite these challenges, the film released in theaters, though it did not achieve significant box office success.

With its OTT debut, viewers now have the opportunity to experience this intense retelling of one of India’s landmark legal cases and witness Yami Gautam and Emraan Hashmi deliver powerful performances.
