
Mumbai, February 14, 2026:The film and television industry mourned the passing of Anand Sagar Chopra, son of legendary filmmaker Ramanand Sagar, who passed away on February 13 in Mumbai at the age of 84. Anand, a key figure in the second generation of Sagar Arts, managed several successful projects, including the 2008 remake of the iconic TV epic ‘Ramayan’, and directed popular shows such as ‘Alif Laila’ (1993).
Anand Sagar’s funeral was held at Pawan Hans crematorium in Mumbai at 4:30 PM on February 13, attended by close family and prominent members of the film industry. Veteran director Ramesh Sippy, accompanied by his wife Kiran Juneja, and actress Bhagyashree, who arrived with her husband, paid their respects.
The Sagar family issued a statement expressing profound grief:
“With deep sorrow, the Sagar family announces the passing of our beloved father, Shri Anand Ramanand Sagar Chopra, who peacefully left us on February 13, 2026. Anand ji, a member of the second generation of Sagar Arts, touched countless lives with his kindness, wisdom, and gentle nature.”
Anand is survived by his wife Nisha Sagar, children Shakti, Gauri, and Amar Sagar, daughter-in-law Vaishali, and grandchildren Anya and Arjun Sagar. Last year, the family also mourned the loss of his brother, television producer-cinematographer Prem Sagar.
Throughout his career, Anand Sagar played a pivotal role in continuing the Sagar family legacy in Indian television and cinema, earning respect for his creative vision and contributions to iconic mythological and entertainment projects.
