Emotional Celina Jaitly Appeals to PM Modi: “Please Bring Our Soldier Back from UAE”

Bollywood actress Celina Jaitly has made a heartfelt appeal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, seeking urgent help for her brother, retired Major Vikrant Kumar Jaitly, who has been in custody in the UAE since September 2024. Speaking in a TV interview, Celina emphasized that her brother has dedicated his life to serving the nation and asserted, “If he had done anything wrong, a case would have been filed against him by now.”

Appeal to the Prime Minister
Celina has been actively seeking assistance for her brother, from legal channels to social media. During the interview, with visible emotion, she requested, “Please, Modi ji, bring our soldier back. He has given his youth to the country. If he had done anything wrong, legal proceedings would have already started.”

Major Vikrant Jaitly is a former officer of the Indian Army’s elite Special Forces and has been recognized for his bravery with a COAS commendation. Celina highlighted that he deserves full support from the nation, which he once served with valor.

Recent Legal Developments
The case has seen a breakthrough this week when the Delhi High Court intervened. On Tuesday, the court directed the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to facilitate legal assistance for Major Vikrant. UAE-based law firm Almari & Partners has been authorized to represent him pro bono. This order is seen as a significant step for Celina, who has been working tirelessly for over 18 months to ensure her brother’s safe return.

Celina on Legal Delays and Humanitarian Concerns
Celina expressed frustration over the lack of transparency in the case, saying, “Our country’s soldier has been held in a foreign prison without trial. Why should there be any further delay in providing legal assistance?” She cited the successful repatriation of Indian Navy officers from Qatar as an example of effective diplomatic intervention in matters related to national security.

Family’s Stand on Major Vikrant’s Detention
Celina and her family have described her brother’s detention as an “illegal abduction.” Major Vikrant has been accused by UAE authorities of involvement in national security and cyber-related matters. However, the family insists that he has not committed any crime and deserves immediate consular and legal access.

Consular Access and Ongoing Proceedings
Celina petitioned the court to ensure consular access, and the Delhi High Court appointed a nodal officer to facilitate communication between the siblings and provide legal assistance. Indian officials have confirmed that Major Vikrant has received consular visits, and as of February 4, 2026, he has legal representation. The next hearing is scheduled for February 10, 2026, with the focus now on how the MEA will ensure diplomatic and legal support for the veteran soldier.
