Director Sanjay Gupta Reacts to Power Outage in Mumbai: “One Hour Without Electricity Shows True Worth”

Filmmaker Sanjay Gupta expressed his frustration online after parts of western Mumbai experienced a power outage, calling attention to how even an hour without electricity can make people realize their limitations.

Power Outage Hits Western Mumbai
On the night of 30 January, several areas in western Mumbai experienced a blackout lasting around an hour. The outage was confirmed by Adani Electricity, and many residents, including Sanjay Gupta, were inconvenienced. The director, known for films like Kaante, Shootout at Lokhandwala, Jazbaa, Kabil, and Mumbai Saga, took to X (formerly Twitter) to share his experience, writing: “One hour without power shows your true worth.”

Sanjay Gupta Speaks Out on X
Sanjay Gupta posted multiple tweets about the outage. At 7:53 PM, he wrote: “Half an hour gone and Versova still completely without power. Anyone has any idea why and how long this will last?”

Around 8:33 PM, he added: “Outside Mumbai, homes have inverters and generators. I have none because I never needed one. But now, for emergencies like this, I will order an inverter bulb first, even if rarely needed.”

Fifteen minutes later, at 8:45 PM, he tweeted again: “One hour of power outage shows your true worth. Imagine this in bigger cities. Small towns are another story. We Mumbaiites are really lucky.”

Casting director Nalini Ratnam replied to his post, informing him: “The entire dark West has no electricity. We were told work would resume by 8:30. There is a fault in the cable near JP Road.”

Adani Electricity Confirms Issue
Adani Electricity tweeted at 7:54 PM on 30 January: “Due to a tripping issue, several areas in western Mumbai are currently without power. Our team is working to restore electricity as soon as possible. We apologize for the inconvenience.”
