Director Anurag Singh Shares Challenges of Shooting ‘Border 2’, Reveals Aerial Attack Scene Was Toughest

Director Anurag Singh recently opened up about the toughest moments while filming the blockbuster war drama ‘Border 2’. Released on 23 January, the film has already broken several records, surpassing major hits like Raees, Dangal, RRR, KGF 2, and Padmavat, earning over ₹177 crore in India and ₹200 crore worldwide within just four days.

In an interview, Anurag Singh revealed that action sequences and war scenes were the most challenging parts of the shoot. “Every scene involved 300-400 crew members, and we shot on real locations, not green screens. We filmed in freezing cold in Dehradun and Jhansi, and in extreme heat at other locations. Coordinating logistics for such large-scale war sequences was extremely demanding,” he said.

Challenges with War and Blast Sequences

Anurag explained that precision was crucial during explosions. “The blasts had to happen at exactly the right moment. Actors had to be in their designated positions and at a safe distance so that no one got caught in the fire. Meanwhile, 500 people were performing background battle sequences. Managing such large-scale action in a realistic war setting was very difficult,” he added.

Aerial Combat Scenes and VFX

The director also shared that aerial attack scenes were particularly tough. “We did not use real fighter planes; the sequences were created entirely using VFX. Combining thrill, emotion, and action seamlessly in a single shot was extremely challenging,” he said.

Anurag further mentioned other difficult sequences, including a cliff-side scene that had to look raw and intense, and Sunny Deol’s tank sequence, which also posed significant technical challenges.

Starring Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, Ahan Shetty, and Parmveer Chima, along with Mona Singh, Sonam Bajwa, and Anya Singh, the film has quickly become one of the biggest Hindi releases on Republic Day.

With its large-scale action, realistic war sequences, and cutting-edge VFX, Border 2 has not only captivated audiences but also pushed the filmmakers to their limits behind the scenes.
