Dhanush Faces ₹20 Crore Legal Notice Over 10-Year-Old Film Project

Mumbai, February 14, 2026: Tamil actor Dhanush has been served with a legal notice demanding ₹20 crore over a decade-old project, with the actor given one week to respond. The notice was issued by production house Thenandal Films, alleging that Dhanush exited the film midway without completing the project, causing significant financial losses.

According to the notice, Dhanush had signed on for the 2016 film ‘Naan Rudran’ but later withdrew. The production house claims that, based on his assurances, they had invested ₹20 crore in pre-production costs and advance payments, including payments to actors Nagarjuna and S.J. Surya, expecting Dhanush to complete the project and commit to a subsequent film under the banner. However, the actor reportedly did not provide the full script or allocate dates, leaving the film incomplete.

The legal notice, issued through advocate A. Chidambaram, asks Dhanush to confirm whether he will finish the project by the end of 2026. If not, the production house demands reimbursement of the ₹20 crore spent along with an additional ₹1 crore as damages. Failure to comply could result in further legal action.

Dhanush was last seen opposite Kriti Sanon in Anand L. Rai’s ‘Tere Ishq Mein’, which was a commercial hit. Made on a budget of ₹65 crore, the film earned a worldwide gross of ₹161.96 crore, including ₹116.71 crore net in India and ₹23 crore overseas.

On the personal front, rumors of Dhanush dating Mrunal Thakur have been circulating, fueled by AI-generated images of a wedding. Both actors have not publicly commented, although sources close to Dhanush have dismissed the rumors, stating he is focused on raising his children. Mrunal Thakur expressed, “I genuinely pray that everyone finds love in their life.”
