
New Delhi: If you enjoy dark humor and quirky storytelling, the Malayalam film ‘Avihitham’ is now streaming in Hindi on OTT platforms, carrying an impressive IMDb rating of 7.6. Originally released in theaters on October 10, 2025, the film has quickly garnered attention for its unusual plot and sharp comedic edge.

Plot That Keeps You Guessing
Set in the quaint village of Kanjangad, the story begins with a man returning home drunk from the fields. On his way, he stumbles upon a young couple engaged in a romantic encounter in another man’s farmland. Shocked, he informs his friend Venu, and soon the entire village is abuzz. The man in question, Vinod, is already married, and the scandal involves extramarital affairs, sparking a frenzy of suspicion and moral policing among villagers.
As the story unfolds, a group of seven friends, including the witness duo, attempts to uncover the truth, while the villagers take it upon themselves to expose the supposed culprits. The central mystery revolves around the identity of the woman, leading to comical misunderstandings and escalating tensions.
‘Avihitham’ – A Tale of Social Norms and Dark Humor
The title ‘Avihitham’ translates to ‘adultery’, a theme explored in global cinema from Akira Kurosawa’s Rashomon to Wong Kar-Wai’s In the Mood for Love and Adrian Lyne’s Unfaithful. Sena Hegde uses dark comedy to critique societal prejudices, moral policing, and human curiosity, presenting a unique rural backdrop filled with secrets, humor, and social commentary.
While the film’s theatrical run may not have been record-breaking, it earned critical praise for its inventive storytelling and sharp satire. Critics have described it as a “quirky, rustic dark comedy”, blending suspense, humor, and moral dilemmas seamlessly.
