Punjabi actress Sonam Bajwa has landed in serious controversy after allegedly shooting scenes of her upcoming film “Peet Syapa” inside a historic mosque in Punjab. The incident has triggered outrage, with the Shahi Imam of Punjab, Maulana Mohammad Usman Rehmani Ludhianvi, filing a formal complaint demanding strict police action and the immediate arrest of the actress and the film crew.
Allegations of Violating Religious Sanctity
According to the Shahi Imam, the shooting took place inside the Bhagat Sadhna Mosque located in Sirhind, Fatehgarh Sahib district—an important religious site revered by both Sikh and Muslim communities.
He stated that filming inside any mosque is strictly prohibited, yet the team proceeded with shooting late at night, allegedly consuming food and beverages inside the premises, which he termed a blatant violation of religious decorum.
“The mosque was built in honour of Bhagat Sadhna, who is respected by followers of both religions, and whose hymns are enshrined in the Guru Granth Sahib. Shooting a film here is shocking and an insult to the sanctity of the place,” the Imam said.
Complaint Sent to SSP, Accusations Against Entire Film Team
In his complaint addressed to the SSP of Fatehgarh Sahib, the Shahi Imam has sought legal action against:
- Actress Sonam Bajwa
- The director and producer of the film
- The official who allegedly permitted the shoot inside the mosque
He claims that despite a clear board stating that filming is banned on the premises, the team continued shooting and did not stop even after objections. He further added that some scenes in the film are “against religious sentiments,” worsening the offence.
Imam Demands Immediate Arrests
Calling the incident an attack on religious faith, the Shahi Imam has urged police to intervene without delay.
“The sanctity of the mosque has been compromised. Faith has been disrespected. This cannot be ignored. Police must register cases and make arrests immediately,” he insisted.
The matter has now sparked widespread debate, and authorities are expected to respond soon.
