Celina Jaitly Finds Hope in Delhi High Court for Brother Held in UAE Jail for 15 Months

Actress and former Miss India Celina Jaitly has been fighting for over a year to secure justice for her brother, Retired Major Vikrant Kumar Jaitly, who has been held in a UAE prison since 6th September 2024. She finally has reason to hope. The Delhi High Court granted relief during a recent hearing, offering Celina a much-needed sense of reassurance.

Balancing her personal struggles and marital challenges, Celina has also been relentlessly working to bring her brother back to India. In a recent heartfelt social media post, she expressed her gratitude and shared the update on the legal proceedings.

During the hearing, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) submitted its status report and appointed a nodal officer to assist in contacting Vikrant. Celina described the development as a “ray of hope” and thanked the court for the direction to facilitate communication with her brother.

Speaking emotionally, Celina wrote, “Mom and Dad… I am doing my best. I haven’t spoken to Vikrant in the past 15 months. Today I saw a ray of hope. Thank you, Universe. My brother, Retired Major Vikrant Kumar Jaitly, was taken into custody in the UAE on 6th September 2024. The court has heard my petition and the MEA has appointed a nodal officer to help me reach him. Although I haven’t been able to speak to him yet, India’s Additional Solicitor General and senior lawyer Chetan Sharma assured the court that they will make every effort to facilitate our communication soon.”

Celina also expressed gratitude towards the court, ASG Chetan Sharma, and her lawyer Raghav Kakkar, emphasizing the recognition given to her family’s four generations of service in the Indian Army. She added that the next hearing is scheduled for 23rd December, and she is patiently awaiting the outcome with hope.

The petition highlighted that Major Vikrant was allegedly illegally detained in the UAE on 6th September 2024 while working with the Matity Group, which operates in trading, consulting, and risk management. Celina’s petition pointed out the lack of timely information provided by the MEA, prompting the Delhi High Court to instruct the government to ensure that her brother is informed about her efforts to contact him.
