Box Office Update: Do Deewane Shehar Mein and Assi Falter on Opening Day; O Romeo Slows, Tu Ya Main Struggles

This week saw the release of two new films, Do Deewane Shehar Mein and Assi, but both struggled at the box office from day one. While Do Deewane Shehar Mein earned ₹1.25 crore on its opening day, Assi managed just ₹1 crore. Meanwhile, Shahid Kapoor’s O Romeo recorded one of its lowest earnings yet, and Tu Ya Main remains in dire straits. Here’s a closer look at the collections:

Do Deewane Shehar Mein – Opening Day Performance

Starring Mrunal Thakur and Siddhant Chaturvedi, the film was released on 20 February under the banners of G Studios and Bhansali Productions. The story revolves around two individuals navigating insecurities, personal shortcomings, and corporate pressures while discovering true love and self-acceptance. Although the trailer received positive attention, the film failed to impress on release.

According to Sacnilk reports, the opening day collections were ₹1.25 crore, with morning shows at 55.77% occupancy, afternoon shows at 8.48%, and evening shows rising to 14.96%.

Assi – Opening Day and Storyline

Taapsee Pannu stars in Assi, a courtroom drama depicting a harrowing story of rape while highlighting society’s harsh realities. The film also features Kani Kusuruti, Mohammad Zeeshan Ayub, Manoj Pahwa, Kumud Mishra, and Revathi. On its opening day, the film earned only ₹1 crore, reflecting a tough start at the box office.

O Romeo – Day 8 Performance

Shahid Kapoor’s romantic drama O Romeo, released on 13 February alongside Tu Ya Main, initially drew positive audience response during Valentine’s week. The lead pair Shahid Kapoor and Trupti Dimri received appreciation for their on-screen chemistry.

However, the collections have slowed. On its second Friday, O Romeo earned ₹2.2 crore from 2,968 shows, marking its lowest day yet. The film’s total domestic collection stands at ₹49.35 crore, with a gross of ₹58.15 crore. Worldwide, the film has earned ₹75.15 crore, including ₹17 crore from overseas markets.

Despite the slowdown, O Romeo remains Shahid Kapoor’s biggest post-COVID opener, with a net collection of ₹30 crore over the first weekend. Previous films like Teri Baato Mein Aisa Uljha Zia (2024) collected ₹27.10 crore, and Deva earned ₹19.15 crore in the first three days. The upcoming box office trajectory of O Romeo will depend on weekday trends and word-of-mouth buzz, though it may approach the ₹100 crore mark globally.

Tu Ya Main – Struggling to Gain Traction

Starring Shanaya Kapoor, Adarsh Gaurav, and Parul Gulati, Tu Ya Main has fared poorly. Over eight days, it earned just ₹4.65 crore nationally. The film opened with ₹60 lakh, collected ₹1.45 crore on the second day, and fluctuated between ₹35–40 lakh over subsequent days. On the eighth day, it earned only ₹20 lakh.
