Shahid Kapoor and Tripti Dimri’s much-anticipated film O Romeo has taken a steep fall at the box office this Wednesday. Meanwhile, Tu Ya Main, which has been struggling in theaters since its release, continues to lag behind long-running hits Border 2 and Mardaani 3.
O Romeo vs Tu Ya Main: Box Office Collections
O Romeo showed some improvement on Tuesday compared to its Monday opening, but Wednesday’s figures remain a cause for concern for the makers. Considering its massive budget of approximately ₹130 crore, the film’s pace of earnings is far from satisfactory.
On the other hand, Tu Ya Main, starring Shanaya Kapoor and Adarsh Gourav, made on a modest budget of around ₹35 crore, has struggled at the box office since day one. Despite new releases, long-running hits Border 2 and Mardaani 3 continue to outperform Shanaya’s film.
Shahid Kapoor, seen as a dangerous contract killer in O Romeo, fails to recreate the magic of his earlier hits like Kabir Singh, while Tripti Dimri is far from delivering the impact of her performance in Animal. Still, the film is slowly accumulating revenue, whereas Tu Ya Main has been weak from the start. Interestingly, both Mardaani 3 and Border 2 are still earning more than Shanaya Kapoor’s release.
What is ‘O Romeo’ About?
Directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, O Romeo is set in Mumbai in 1995, amid a backdrop of crime and power struggles. Shahid Kapoor plays Ustra, a contract killer who lives on an old ship by the sea, following his own strict rules. His relationship with Inspector Khan, played by Nana Patekar, is complicated by both necessity and tension. The story takes a twist with the entry of Afshan (Tripti Dimri), who approaches Ustra for a contract killing. The film unfolds as a tense game of trust and suspicion between the two characters.
Box Office Performance of ‘O Romeo’
Reports indicate that O Romeo earned ₹5.35 crore on Tuesday, but on its sixth day, earnings slipped to only ₹3.5 crore. The domestic box office collection has reached approximately ₹43.85 crore, while worldwide earnings stand at around ₹67.15 crore.
‘Tu Ya Main’ Struggles in Theaters
Directed by Bijoy Nambiar, Tu Ya Main was expected to attract audiences with its survival thriller elements and modern relationship drama blended with influencer culture and adrenaline-pumping sequences. Despite these features, the film has failed to draw viewers to theaters.
Box Office Performance of ‘Tu Ya Main’
On Wednesday, the film earned merely ₹32 lakh, bringing its domestic total to about ₹4.02 crore and worldwide total to roughly ₹4.35 crore. With these numbers, it is likely to be classified as one of the biggest flops of the year.
‘Border 2’ Shows Strength
Released on 23 January 2026, Border 2 continues to perform strongly at the box office. On its 27th day, the film earned approximately ₹55 lakh, bringing its domestic total to ₹323.8 crore and worldwide earnings to an impressive ₹442.75 crore. Based on the 1971 India-Pakistan war, the multi-front war drama features Sunny Deol as Colonel Fateh Singh, showcasing untold stories of bravery from Longewala to the Arabian Sea.
‘Mardaani 3’ Holds Its Ground
Rani Mukerji’s Mardaani 3, made on a budget of around ₹60 crore, is slowly but steadily performing well. The film continues the story of Shivani Shivaji Roy, an officer of the Mumbai Crime Branch, tackling high-profile kidnappings, the disappearance of 93 girls, and exposing a dangerous child trafficking network. On its 19th day, the film earned ₹50 lakh, with domestic collections reaching ₹45.9 crore and worldwide earnings approximately ₹68 crore.
