Box Office Preview: ‘120 Bahadur’ and ‘Masti 4’ Get Off to a Slow Start – First Day Collections Predicted

Farhan Akhtar’s historical war drama ‘120 Bahadur’ and the adult comedy ‘Masti 4’ hit theaters on Friday, November 21. Early morning shows witnessed a modest turnout, with audiences trickling in slowly. Here’s a look at how both films are expected to perform on their opening day.

According to initial observations, ‘120 Bahadur’ shows had occupancy of around 7-8%, while ‘Masti 4’ attracted only 4-5% of seats. Interestingly, both films face minimal competition at the box office, with Ajay Devgn’s ‘De De Pyaar De 2’ being the only other film screening, even as it enters its 8th day with a slow collection.

On the budget and pre-booking front, both films are almost on par. ‘120 Bahadur’, produced under Excel Entertainment and Tiger Happy Studios, carries a reported budget of ₹100 crore, while ‘Masti 4’, produced by Balaji Motion Pictures, Waveband Production, and Maruti International, is made on a budget of ₹80 crore. In advance bookings, ‘Masti 4’ managed to sell just around 10,000 tickets, whereas ‘120 Bahadur’ collected over ₹1 crore in pre-bookings.

‘120 Bahadur’: A Word-of-Mouth Reliant War Drama

Directed by Rajneesh Ghai, ‘120 Bahadur’ tells the inspiring story of Indian soldiers who defended their post against 3,000 Chinese soldiers during the 1962 Rezang La battle. While war films generally attract a loyal audience, the initial excitement for this release seems limited. Experts suggest that while opening day collections might be modest, positive word-of-mouth could boost earnings over the weekend. The film is expected to earn around ₹4-5 crore on day one.

‘Masti 4’: Adult Comedy Banking on Franchise Popularity

The fourth installment in the popular ‘Masti’ franchise, directed by Milap Zaveri, stars Vivek Oberoi, Aftab Shivdasani, and Riteish Deshmukh. While the franchise has delivered hits in the past, its last outing, ‘Great Grand Masti’, had underperformed. The latest installment sticks to the familiar double-meaning humor, though in the age of OTT, such content may not attract as wide an audience in multiplexes. Opening day collections for ‘Masti 4’ are expected to be around ₹2-3 crore, catering primarily to traditional single-screen audiences.

Both films open to a lukewarm start, but weekend performance will largely depend on audience feedback and word-of-mouth publicity.
