Box Office: ‘Dhurandhar’ Becomes 2025’s Highest-Grossing Film, Surpasses ‘Kantara Chapter 1’

Ranveer Singh’s action-packed thriller ‘Dhurandhar’ continues its unstoppable run at the box office, breaking records just 18 days after release. The film, which had already crossed ₹555 crore in India in 17 days, has now overtaken ‘Kantara: Chapter 1’ to become the highest-grossing Indian film of 2025.

Based on a true story, ‘Dhurandhar’ hit theaters on 5 December 2025, earning ₹28 crore on its opening day alone. Its momentum remained strong throughout the first two weeks, collecting ₹207.25 crore in the first week and ₹253.25 crore in the second. Although its earnings dipped slightly in the third week, the film’s overall performance remains phenomenal. Directed by Aditya Dhar, this spy-action entertainer now holds the record for the highest worldwide gross for an Indian film in 2025.

Featuring an ensemble cast including Ranveer Singh, Akshay Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, R. Madhavan, and Sara Arjun, the film was made on a budget of ₹280 crore. In 17 days, it amassed ₹555 crore domestically and ₹847 crore worldwide. On the 18th day, it earned ₹16 crore in India, bringing its domestic total to ₹571.75 crore, with hopes to cross the ₹600 crore mark during the upcoming holiday on 25 December. However, it will face competition from Kartik Aaryan and Ananya Panday’s ‘Tu Meri Main Tera’, which also releases that day.

Worldwide Collections: ‘Dhurandhar’ Outpaces ‘Kantara’

‘Dhurandhar’ has now surpassed Rishabh Shetty’s ‘Kantara: A Legend Chapter-1’, which had a worldwide gross of ₹852.31 crore, with its 18-day worldwide total of ₹872.25 crore. This includes ₹186 crore from international markets and ₹686.25 crore from India.

Next Target: Ranbir Kapoor’s ‘Animal’

With its rapid earnings, ‘Dhurandhar’ is now eyeing Ranbir Kapoor’s ‘Animal’, which had a worldwide collection of ₹915 crore. Compared to ‘Animal’, ‘Dhurandhar’ is growing at an even faster pace, with domestic net earnings nearly double in speed. On the 17th day, ‘Animal’ earned ₹14.5 crore, while ‘Dhurandhar’ raked in ₹38.5 crore. On the 18th day, ‘Animal’ collected just ₹5.75 crore, whereas ‘Dhurandhar’ earned ₹16.5 crore, signaling a potential record-breaking trajectory.
