Box Office: ‘Border 2’ Faces Major Drop on Sixth Day, Earnings Plummet After Republic Day Holiday

Sunny Deol’s ‘Border 2’, touted as one of the biggest films of the year, has seen a sharp decline in box office collections after the Republic Day holiday. The patriotic action drama, which opened to strong numbers, struggled to maintain its momentum once the extended weekend ended.

Opening and holiday performance
Released on 23 January 2026, strategically timed around Republic Day, the film enjoyed robust advance bookings and a strong opening weekend. On its first day, Friday, it earned ₹30 crore, followed by ₹36.5 crore on Saturday. The holiday weekend proved to be a game-changer, with Sunday and Monday collections surpassing ₹50 crore each. Sunday brought in ₹54.5 crore, and Monday added ₹59 crore, capitalizing on the national holiday.

Post-holiday decline
As anticipated, the real test came after the holidays. On Tuesday, the film’s earnings dropped to ₹20 crore, and Wednesday (the sixth day) saw further decline to ₹13 crore. With this, the film’s total net domestic collection stands at ₹213 crore, while its gross domestic earnings are ₹255.10 crore.

Worldwide collection
Made on a budget of approximately ₹275 crore, ‘Border 2’ earned ₹37 crore from overseas markets in its first six days. Combining domestic and international earnings, the film has racked up a worldwide gross of ₹292.10 crore so far.

Occupancy trends
Post-holiday, the film experienced a significant drop in occupancy. On the fifth day, the Hindi version’s total occupancy was 24.82%, with morning shows at 11.21%, afternoon at 24.22%, evening at 29.79%, and night at 34.07%. On the sixth day, occupancy fell further: morning shows 7.52%, afternoon 17.27%, evening 19.82%, and night 22.50%.

Records broken
Despite the decline, ‘Border 2’ set a record for military-themed films, earning ₹193.48 crore in its opening weekend alone. It became the first Hindi film of 2026 to cross the ₹100 crore mark in such a short span, surpassing other Republic Day releases and action films like Fighter and Sky Force.

Star-studded cast
The film features Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, Ahan Shetty, Mona Singh, Sonam Bajwa, Anya Singh, and Medha Rana. It continues the story of the 1997 blockbuster Border, originally directed by J.P. Dutta. Audiences have praised the film for its high-octane action sequences, patriotic themes, and stellar performances by the cast.
