Sunny Deol–starrer war drama ‘Border 2’ faced unexpected hurdles on its release day as morning shows were delayed or cancelled at several theatres across the country due to technical and delivery issues. The film, directed by Anurag Singh and starring Sunny Deol, Ahan Shetty, Diljit Dosanjh, and Varun Dhawan, hit cinemas on Friday but encountered last-minute complications that disrupted early screenings.
According to industry reports, Border 2, which is releasing on nearly 5,000 screens nationwide, was not delivered to many theatres until late at night. As a result, several morning shows scheduled for 6:30 am could not commence on time and were either postponed to 9–10 am or cancelled altogether. This led to confusion among exhibitors and audiences in multiple regions.
Trade publication Film Information reported that the final content of the film was not ready until late on January 22. Digital delivery platform UFO Movies had informed theatres that the content download and preparation would take longer than expected. A senior trade analyst, speaking on condition of anonymity, stated that the content was expected to arrive only by midnight, making early morning shows highly uncertain.
Further updates revealed that the film’s download process began around 6:30 am on release day. Given the film’s 192-minute runtime, theatres required at least 3–4 hours to complete technical preparations, pushing the first screenings to later in the morning. This delay is expected to have a short-term impact on the film’s opening day box office collections.
Meanwhile, a source quoted by Hindustan Times confirmed that while some shows were indeed cancelled due to the delay, exhibitors remained confident that screenings would resume across India by 10 am.
Despite the hiccups, Border 2 has shown strong pre-release momentum. The film reportedly earned ₹12.5 crore through advance bookings within three days, while collections, including blocked seats, stand at approximately ₹17.5 crore.
Trade experts believe that although the delayed morning shows may slightly affect day-one figures, the film’s strong buzz and patriotic appeal could help it recover quickly over the weekend.
