Bollywood actor Emraan Hashmi, known for playing a wide range of roles from romantic leads to intense characters, revealed in a recent interview the most painful moment of his life—the day he discovered his young son, Ayaan, had cancer.
A life-altering afternoon
During a conversation with Ranveer Allahbadia, Emraan shared how a seemingly ordinary afternoon in 2014 changed his life forever. “The toughest phase of my life was when my son fell ill in 2014. I can’t even describe it in words. It lasted five years. My entire world changed in just one afternoon,” he said.
He recalled that on 13 January, while having brunch with his family, a small sign appeared. “We were having pizza with our son when the first symptom showed up—there was blood in his urine. Within three hours, we were at the doctor’s clinic. The doctor told us he had cancer. The next day, he had to undergo surgery, followed by chemotherapy. My entire world turned upside down in just 12 hours,” Emraan shared.
When life seemed under control
Emraan explained that what made the situation even more shocking was that life had seemed stable and normal just before the diagnosis. “You feel like you have finally reached a golden phase, like you’ve got life under control—and then suddenly, a massive shock hits you. That’s how it happened,” he said.
Five challenging years
The actor described the following five years as a constant struggle of hospital visits, treatments, and worry. He said, “Those five years taught me what truly matters in life.” The experience also inspired him to write a book aimed at helping parents facing similar challenges. Today, with his son healthy and doing well, Emraan reflects on that period as the most difficult phase of his life.
Workfront
Professionally, Emraan Hashmi continues to receive praise for his performance in the new web series ‘Taskari’, proving his resilience both on and off the screen.
