Bhojpuri Blockbuster Made for ₹30 Lakh Earns ₹54 Crore, Yet Director Receives No Award

At the grand inauguration of the Indian National Cinema Academy (INCA) in Mumbai, Bhojpuri actor and politician Manoj Tiwari revealed a remarkable story from his early film career, highlighting the often-overlooked achievements of regional cinema.

A Massive Return on a Modest Budget

Manoj Tiwari disclosed that one of his early Bhojpuri films was made with a modest budget of just ₹30 lakh, yet it went on to earn ₹54 crore, a staggering 14,900% return on investment. Despite its blockbuster success, neither the film’s director nor its writer received any awards. Tiwari praised the INCA initiative, stating that it provides a platform for artists to gain recognition and connect with audiences nationwide.

The Film in Question: ‘Sasura Bada Paisewala’

Fans quickly identified the film as ‘Sasura Bada Paisewala’ (2003), starring Manoj Tiwari alongside Rani Chatterjee. The film became one of the biggest hits in Bhojpuri cinema, earning immense popularity for its engaging storyline and entertainment value.
