Mumbai, Feb 10: Salman Khan’s highly anticipated war drama ‘Battle of Galwan’ is reportedly facing uncertainty over its release date. Initially slated for April 17, 2026, the film might be postponed, with recent reports suggesting a potential August 14 release, just ahead of Independence Day.
Director Apurva Lakhia, when contacted, stated he has no official information regarding the change. Sources indicate that ongoing reshoots across Mumbai and other locations, coupled with post-production work, are taking longer than expected.
Another significant reason for the delay is protocol clearance. The film, based on the 2020 Galwan Valley clash between Indian and Chinese troops, must first be reviewed by the Defence Ministry, which could take time. Given the sensitive, patriotic subject, Salman Khan reportedly does not want to rush the release.
The delay also coincides with a packed release calendar. Akshay Kumar’s ‘Bhoot Bangla’ has been advanced to April 10, 2026, while Aamir Khan’s production ‘Lahore 1947’ is scheduled for August 13, 2026, two days before Independence Day. Salman, known for maintaining cordial relations with industry peers, is unlikely to clash with friends at the box office.
About the film: Battle of Galwan depicts the bravery of Indian soldiers in the high-altitude Galwan Valley clash, where troops fought without firearms under harsh conditions. Salman Khan plays Colonel Bikkumalla Santosh Babu, who was posthumously awarded the Param Vir Chakra for his valor.
The film also stars Chitrangda Singh in the female lead, along with Jane Shaw, Ankur Bhatia, and Vipin Bhardwaj. Produced under Salman Khan Films, the project adds to the actor’s legacy of patriotic, high-octane cinema.
