James Cameron has once again made cinematic history with “Avatar: Fire and Ash”, which has crossed $1 billion in global box office revenue in just 17 days. This marks Cameron’s fourth film to achieve this milestone.
In India, despite the blockbuster success of Ranveer Singh’s “Dhurandhar”, which earned ₹1,201 crore worldwide in 31 days, “Avatar: Fire and Ash” has already amassed ₹174 crore in just 17 days. The film’s global gross stands at ₹9,550 crore, which is 695% higher than “Dhurandhar”. The success comes at a time when “Zootopia 2” is also performing strongly in overseas markets.
A Milestone Achievement
“Avatar: Fire and Ash” is the fourth film of 2025 to cross the $1 billion mark worldwide. It is also the 60th film in cinematic history to reach this milestone and ranks among the top 10 fastest-grossing films globally, achieving this feat in only 17 days.
Strong Overseas Performance
According to Forbes, within 15 days, the film earned $300 million (₹2,707 crore) in North America and $700 million (₹6,318 crore) from international markets. Although the pace of collection is slightly slower than its predecessor “Avatar: The Way of Water”, the numbers are impressive nonetheless.
Challenging “Zootopia 2”
Industry analysts expect the film’s worldwide collection to cross $1.1 billion soon. Its biggest competitor at the overseas box office is the animated blockbuster “Zootopia 2”, which has already grossed $1.5 billion worldwide. “Zootopia 2” was released on 28 November, while “Avatar 3” hit screens on 19 December.
Cameron’s Billion-Dollar Club
This achievement adds another feather to James Cameron’s illustrious career. His previous films “Titanic”, “Avatar”, and “Avatar: The Way of Water” had also crossed the $1 billion mark, with the original “Avatar” earning ₹18,000 crore and “Titanic” over ₹19,000 crore, making them some of the highest-grossing films in history.
