Veteran actor Arshad Warsi has opened up about his experience working on the film ‘Hulchul’, describing it as a disappointing chapter in his career. In a recent interview, he revealed that he was misled about the role he would play, which left him frustrated once he reached the set.
Arshad, who recently gained recognition for his performance in ‘Gaffoor’, and is widely remembered for his iconic role as Circuit in ‘Munna Bhai MBBS,’ has also impressed audiences with roles in ‘Dhamaal’ and ‘Golmaal’. However, he says that working on ‘Hulchul’ was far from enjoyable.
Speaking to The Lallantop, Arshad said, “I usually don’t complain about my work, but ‘Hulchul’ was a bad experience. I felt cheated. Neeraj Vohra approached me and explained that the film is directed by Priyadarshan. I asked, ‘Wow, what am I doing in this film?’ They said, ‘Have you seen Hera Pheri? You’ll be doing Akshay Kumar’s role in that.’ I thought it sounded great, so I agreed.”
However, things changed when he arrived on set. “I felt a big difference when we reached the set. The dynamic between the characters wasn’t what I expected. I was given a shirt that was knee-length with three-quarter sleeves—it wasn’t clear if it was a nightshirt or a shirt. I wore it for half the film, but it was a bad experience,” he added, clarifying that Priyadarshan was not at fault.
Film Background and Upcoming Projects
‘Hulchul’ was a remake of the 1991 Malayalam film ‘Godfather’, starring Kshay Khanna, Kareena Kapoor, Sunil Shetty, Jackie Shroff, Amrish Puri, Paresh Rawal, Arbaaz Khan, Shakti Kapoor, Farah Naaz, and Laxmi.
Looking ahead, Arshad will feature in Siddharth Anand’s ‘King’ alongside Shah Rukh Khan and Suhana Khan, and in a multi-starrer ‘Welcome to Jungle’ with Akshay Kumar, Sunil Shetty, Sanjay Dutt, and Paresh Rawal, set to release in 2026.
