Bollywood actor Arjun Rampal, widely recognized as one of the most handsome actors in the industry, comes from a distinguished military background. His grandfather, Brigadier Gurdayal Singh, was part of the team that designed India’s first artillery gun. Despite his striking looks and modeling success, Rampal faced significant financial struggles early in his career, at times finding it difficult to even cover daily household expenses.
Early Life and Education
Born on 26 November 1972 in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, Arjun Rampal grew up in a military family. After his parents’ divorce, he was raised by his mother, a school teacher. He completed his schooling in Maharashtra before moving to Delhi, where he graduated in Economics from Hindu College, University of Delhi.
Entry into Modeling
Rampal’s entry into modeling came through a chance encounter at a party with fashion designer Rohit Bal, who was impressed by his personality and offered him modeling assignments. Soon, Rampal became one of India’s top models, winning the ‘Society Face of the Year’ award in 1994. However, fame in modeling did not translate into financial stability, and he often struggled to make ends meet.
Struggles in Early Acting Career
During the initial years of trying to enter films, Rampal faced severe financial challenges, sometimes lacking even the money to buy food. His first film, Moksha, took five years to materialize. Rampal eventually made his debut in Pyaar Ishq Aur Mohabbat (2001), which, although not a box-office hit, earned him praise for his acting skills.
Rising Stardom
Rampal continued to take on roles in films like Diwanapan, Dil Ka Rishta, and Vaada, earning recognition for his looks and performances despite mixed commercial success. His career saw a turning point with notable roles in Don (2006) and Om Shanti Om (2007), where his portrayal of a villain garnered widespread acclaim. In 2008, he portrayed a rockstar in Rock On, dedicating months to learning the guitar, a role that won him the National Award for Best Supporting Actor in 2010, along with a Filmfare Award.
Ventures Beyond Acting
Rampal later launched his production company, Chasing Ganesha Films, producing movies such as ICU and Daddy. While some projects succeeded commercially, others did not, yet Rampal never gave up. Today, he is considered an established name in Hindi cinema and remains active in films while maintaining a strong focus on fitness.
Currently, Rampal is in the spotlight for his upcoming movie Dhurandhar, set to release on 5 December.
