Bollywood actor Parmeet Sethi and his wife, Archana Puran Singh, recently opened up about the challenging early years of their marriage. In a candid discussion on Archana’s YouTube channel, the couple shared how Parmeet faced severe professional and personal struggles when they tied the knot nearly four decades ago.
Archana recalled that Parmeet was a “red flag” at the time, as his business was failing and he was battling deep depression. Their astrologer had even warned her against marrying him, citing his horoscope. Parmeet, seven years younger than Archana, was navigating a period of career setbacks and personal turmoil when they married.
Parmeet shared memories of his failed clothing business, which had once promised success with European orders. Despite setting up a factory in Bangalore and initial optimism, the orders were suddenly canceled, causing the collapse of his venture and significant financial loss. He recalled calling Archana from a public STD booth, distraught and unsure of what to do. Archana simply told him, “Come back,” offering support that he says few others could have provided.
Turning to acting, Parmeet admitted that the unpredictability of his business made him appreciate the steady returns in the film industry. “Acting is a business where you sell yourself, and that came naturally to me. That’s when I decided to become an actor,” he said.
Archana reflected on her approach during those difficult years, saying she always prayed to God that their problems remain financial. “Because financial troubles can be solved, but when someone is lost or suffers harm, that’s irreparable,” she explained. She added that even during later financial setbacks, she and Parmeet remained united, valuing their partnership above all.
Interestingly, Archana admitted she was initially not happy with Parmeet pursuing acting. She had thought he could never succeed in the profession due to his introverted nature and lack of humor. Parmeet interrupted, reminding her she had once said she didn’t want a “struggling boyfriend.” Archana laughed, noting that despite her doubts, she never objected to his talent and was proud that he persevered. She emphasized that she never judged him for not earning at the time, saying, “I was earning, so what was the problem? It doesn’t matter whether it’s a man or woman—support and love are what count.”
Through their heartfelt reflections, the couple highlighted how resilience, faith, and mutual support helped them overcome early obstacles and build a lasting relationship.
