Anu Malik Hopes for Credit in ‘Ghar Kab Aaoge’ from ‘Border 2’: Says Contribution Cannot Be Ignored

Veteran music composer Anu Malik has expressed hope that he will receive proper credit for the iconic song Ghar Kab Aaoge in the upcoming film Border 2. Malik, who composed the original track, emphasized that the movie feels incomplete without this song and is confident that both his and lyricist Javed Akhtar’s contributions will be duly acknowledged.

The original Ghar Kab Aaoge from the 1997 blockbuster Border has been reimagined for the sequel starring Sunny Deol. The new version, titled Ghar Kab Aaoge…, is set to release on 2 January 2026. While Malik was not involved in the remake, the music has been reworked by Mithoon, and some of the lyrics are penned by Manoj Muntashir. The revamped track features vocals from Sonu Nigam, Arijit Singh, Vishal Mishra, and Diljit Dosanjh, generating anticipation among fans.

In an interview with PTI-Bhasha, Anu Malik stated, “I understand that the song has been recreated and I am not part of the new version. But I am confident that my name will be included in the credits, as I composed the original piece. They know about my contribution and cannot ignore it.”

Malik stressed the importance of recognizing both his and Javed Akhtar’s contributions, saying, “‘Sande Se Aate Hain…’ cannot be recreated without acknowledging the original creators. Both Javed Sahab and I played a crucial role in the song, so our names must appear in some form in the credits.”

Recalling the creation of the original track, Malik shared that he and Javed Akhtar composed it in just seven and a half minutes. “While working on the lyrics and melody, an old tune came to my mind. I hummed it, and Javed Sahab asked me to try it again with the lyrics he wrote. In minutes, the song was ready. He even embraced me and appreciated how quickly it came together,” Malik recalled.

The original Border, directed by J.P. Dutta, starred Sunny Deol, Jackie Shroff, Suniel Shetty, and Akshay Khanna, while the sequel is directed by Anurag Singh and features Sunny Deol alongside Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty.

Anu Malik remains optimistic that the new rendition will retain the magic of the original, stating, “Sonu and Arijit are exceptional singers. Their voices will create a magical experience, but the melody belongs to me. The contribution of Javed Sahab and me cannot be overlooked.”
