
Mumbai: Producer Amit Jani, known for the controversial film Udaipur Files, is back with a new project titled ‘Kalki Sambhal’, based on real-life events. The film’s first poster has been released, showcasing the powerful looks of lead actors Vijay Raj and Mahesh Manjrekar, while offering a glimpse of the film’s intense characters.
According to Jani’s post on social media platform X, the film is based on the 1978 Sambhal riots and connects the events to 2024, exploring intergenerational conflict and violence.
Main Characters and Cast
- Abbazaan – portrayed by Mahesh Manjrekar, the character is depicted as having incited riots in 1978 for political gain.
- Bhaijaan – played by Vijay Raj, the grandson of Abbazaan, accused in the story of spreading violence in Sambhal in 2024.
- Another key role is Sambhal’s SP Arjun Bishnoi, played by a prominent actor whose identity remains under wraps, to be revealed in a future poster.
Director and Production
The film is directed by Bharat S. Shreenath, with production handled by Amit Jani. Following the controversies surrounding Udaipur Files, Kalki Sambhal is expected to stir debate as it tackles historical and contemporary socio-political issues in Sambhal. The makers emphasize that the film will focus on the depth and background of its characters, and the first poster has been released to establish the central roles before the story unfolds.
Background on ‘Udaipur Files’
Udaipur Files (2022) was based on the Kanhaiyalal murder case, where the victim was a tailor brutally killed. Released on August 8, 2025, the film earned a net collection of ₹2.05 crore in India and ₹2.34 crore worldwide, ultimately considered a box-office flop. The cast included Vijay Raj, Ahsaan Khan, Preeti Jhangiani, Rajneesh Duggal, and Puneet Vashisht.
Despite the previous setback, Amit Jani is confident that Kalki Sambhal will spark conversation and engagement, as it addresses historical and current issues with a strong character-driven narrative.
