Alia Bhatt to Present at BAFTA 2026, India Pins Hopes on Farhan Akhtar’s Boong

Mumbai: Bollywood star Alia Bhatt has been invited to serve as an award presenter at the prestigious BAFTA 2026 ceremony. The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) announced its official list of presenters for the awards, which will be held on February 22. This year, India’s hopes also rest on the Manipur-language film Boong, produced by Farhan Akhtar, which has received a nomination in the Children’s and Family Film category.

Global Lineup of Presenters

Alongside Alia Bhatt, the BAFTA 2026 presenter list includes international stars such as Cillian Murphy (Oppenheimer), Amy Lou Wood, Bryan Cranston, Delroy Lindo, Gillian Anderson, Glenn Close, Olivia Cooke, Patrick Dempsey, Alicia Vikander, and Riz Ahmed, among others.

Previous Indian actors who have appeared as presenters include Priyanka Chopra Jonas (2021) and Deepika Padukone (2024).

BAFTA 2026 Nominations

The Leonardo DiCaprio-starrer One Battle After Another leads the nominations with 14 nods, followed by Ryan Coogler’s vampire drama Sinners with 13 nominations. Chloe Zhao’s Shakespearean drama Hamnet and Josh Safdie’s Marty Supreme received 11 nominations each. Joachim Trier’s Sentimental Value and Guillermo del Toro’s gothic epic Frankenstein garnered 8 nominations each.

India’s Representation

Farhan Akhtar’s production Boong has been nominated in the Children’s and Family Film category, giving India a presence at the global awards stage.

Key Contenders for Best Film and Acting Awards

In the Best Film category, nominees include One Battle After Another, Hamnet, Marty Supreme, Sinners, and the Norwegian family drama Sentimental Value. Best Leading Actor contenders include Leonardo DiCaprio (One Battle After Another), Robert Aramayo (I Swear), Timothy Chalamet (Marty Supreme), Ethan Hawke (Blue Moon), Michael B. Jordan (Sinners), and Jesse Plemmons (Bugonia).

For Best Leading Actress, six prominent names are competing: Jessie Buckley (Hamnet), Rose Byrne (If I Had Legs I Would Kick You), Kate Hudson (Song Sang Blue), Chase Infinity (One Battle After Another), Renate Renswe (Sentimental Value), and Emma Stone (Bugonia).

With Alia Bhatt joining as presenter and Boong in the race, India has strong visibility at BAFTA 2026, highlighting its growing presence on the international cinematic stage.
