Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar is set to make a grand comeback on Indian television with the much-loved international game show ‘Wheel of Fortune’. The show, originally a U.S. number-one entertainment program, has been adapted in over 60 countries and won 8 Emmy Awards. Now, its Indian version is all set to premiere on Sony Entertainment Television, with Akshay as the charismatic host.
A Fun and Intriguing Promo
The first promo showcases Akshay in his signature witty avatar, reminiscent of his ‘Tees Maar Khan’ style. The quirky story in the promo features a twist of fate: a wealthy man’s fortune intended for his son Ram ends up going to his servant Ramu, simply because Ramu cleverly altered a single letter in the will. Akshay explains,
“One single letter changed everything. Words can be magical. Every spin of the wheel will now matter.”
About the Show
Wheel of Fortune combines word puzzles with a lucky spinning wheel. Contestants spin the wheel to reveal cash values, bonuses, or penalties like bankrupt/lose-a-turn. After spinning, they choose a letter to solve a word puzzle. Correct letters reveal multiple positions in the puzzle, and contestants can also attempt to solve the entire puzzle to win the accumulated prize money. While Sony TV hasn’t released all the details yet, the Indian edition is expected to follow this global format.
Game Mechanics
- Spin the Wheel: Determines cash prizes or special game outcomes.
- Choose a Letter: Reveals matching letters in the puzzle.
- Solve the Puzzle: Win the accumulated cash or bonuses.
When Will It Air?
The show is expected to launch early 2026, likely following the popular ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’ season on Sony TV. Exact dates are yet to be officially announced.
Akshay’s TV Journey
Akshay first ventured into television in 2004 with Seven Deadly Arts. Since then, he has hosted multiple shows, including Khatron Ke Khiladi (Seasons 1, 2, 4), judged MasterChef India Season 1, hosted Dare 2 Dance, and produced the serial Jamai Raja. In 2017, he appeared as a judge on The Great Indian Laughter Challenge. Now, in 2026, Akshay Kumar is back to entertain TV audiences with this global game-show phenomenon.
