Aditi Govitrikar Opens Up About Discrimination After Winning Mrs. World, Says Lara Dutta and Priyanka Chopra Received Luxury Rewards

Actress Aditi Govitrikar has revealed in an interview that she faced discrimination after winning the Mrs. World title in 2001. While contemporaries Lara Dutta and Priyanka Chopra—who won Miss Universe and Miss World titles respectively—were rewarded with cars and flats, Aditi says she only received a bouquet of flowers.

Speaking Out About the Discrimination
Aditi, the first Indian woman to be crowned Mrs. World, appeared in several films following her pageant victory but later took a step back from the limelight. In a candid conversation with How to Fly, she compared her experience with that of Lara Dutta and Priyanka Chopra, stating that despite her historic achievement, she did not receive similar recognition.

She explained, “I won Mrs. World the same year Lara and Priyanka won their titles. We had a party, but it was an unfortunate one. The publication they were associated with gave them a flat and a car, but I received only a bouquet of flowers.” Aditi added that Lara Dutta jokingly highlighted the difference in rewards, saying, “Look, we have a car, a house, and you have a husband,” to which Aditi humorously replied, “That’s good. Great.”

Personal Life
Aditi married her college senior, Muffzal Lakdawala, in 1998 after dating for six years despite family objections due to their differing religions. She converted to Islam and changed her name to Sara Lakdawala. The couple had two children—daughter Kiara in 1999 and son Ziyan in 2007—but divorced in 2008, with Aditi receiving custody of both children.
