Some Bollywood actresses have risen to stardom overnight with just one film, while others chose to step away from the limelight despite promising beginnings. Among them is Gayatri Joshi, who made her acting debut alongside Shah Rukh Khan in the film Swades. Though her performance was widely appreciated, she did not pursue further projects in Bollywood and instead chose a very different path.
From Modeling to Bollywood
Gayatri Joshi began her career in modeling, appearing in several commercials, including one with Shah Rukh Khan. She also participated in prominent beauty pageants—reaching the Top 5 in Femina Miss India 1999 and representing India at the Miss International 2000 pageant in Japan. Additionally, she featured in several music videos, earning recognition for her talent and screen presence.
A New Chapter: Married to Billionaire Vikas Oberoi
In 2005, Gayatri Joshi married businessman Vikas Oberoi, entering a life far removed from Bollywood. Vikas Oberoi is a billionaire with an estimated net worth of ₹45,000 crore (approximately $5.5 billion). He serves as Chairman and MD of Oberoi Realty Limited and is also an aircraft owner. The couple has two daughters and leads a life of luxury and privacy, far from the film industry’s glare.
Why She Left Acting
Gayatri Joshi has explained in interviews that she chose to step away from acting to devote time to her family. She shared that she was open-minded and enjoyed hearing scripts, hoping that good opportunities would arise in the future. However, as her plans evolved, she decided to leave films and focus on family life.
Despite her brief stint in Bollywood, Gayatri Joshi remains a beloved figure for her debut performance in Swades, while her personal life continues to attract public interest for its glamour and exclusivity.
