In a recent interview, Farah Khan revealed behind-the-scenes stories from the iconic song ‘Deewangi Deewangi’ from Shahrukh Khan’s 2007 blockbuster ‘Om Shanti Om’, which was recently re-released in theaters. The song featured a record 31 film stars, a feat that left audiences stunned and remains legendary.
Farah disclosed that Aamir Khan declined to participate, while Dev Anand politely refused, saying he doesn’t do cameos. Dilip Kumar and Saira Banu also could not make it despite efforts. Even actor Fardeen Khan, who was scheduled to shoot, was arrested at Dubai airport, missing the sequence entirely.
To convince the stars, Shahrukh Khan and Farah went the extra mile. Farah personally met each celebrity, while Shahrukh gifted lavish hampers worth ₹1 lakh each, including a TAG Heuer watch, a Blackberry phone, and other goodies. Costume designer Manish Malhotra played a crucial role, ensuring all actors were happy with their outfits and could take them home after the shoot.
The song shoot was full of spontaneous fun. Farah recounted how Salman Khan, who had finished his shoot hours earlier, suddenly jumped into a scene during Dharmendra’s sequence, with Saif Ali Khan following suit—an improvised moment that added extra charm.
Farah’s anecdotes offer a glimpse into the monumental effort behind creating one of Bollywood’s most star-studded musical sequences, showcasing the blend of planning, persuasion, and sheer charisma that made ‘Deewangi Deewangi’ unforgettable.
