When Will the GDS First Merit List Be Released? How to Check Your Roll Number

Candidates who applied for over 28,000 posts under the Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) 2026 recruitment by the India Post are now eagerly waiting for the release of the first merit list. Here’s everything you need to know about the timeline, where to check results, and how to find your roll number.

Expected Timeline for GDS First Merit List

The GDS 2026 recruitment invited applications for 28,636 posts from 31 January to 16 February 2026. Looking at previous years’ trends:

  • In 2025, applications were accepted from 10 February to 3 March, and the first merit list for several states was published on 21 March 2025. Other states’ lists were released gradually over 1–1.5 months.
  • In 2024, applications were accepted from 15 July to 5 August, and the first merit list was released around 19–20 August 2024.

Based on these trends, it is likely that the first merit list for GDS 2026 will be published within 15–20 days after the application window closes, potentially by 10–15 March 2026. However, this is only an estimated timeline, as the official date has not yet been announced.

Where to Check the GDS Result

The India Post will release the GDS merit list on the following official websites:

Candidates can check their first merit list by following these steps:

  1. Visit either of the official websites.
  2. Look for the link titled “GDS 1st Merit List PDF Download”.
  3. Select your circle-specific link.
  4. The list will display roll numbers division-wise, along with percentage scores and cut-offs.
  5. Use Ctrl+F to search for your roll number. If found, your name is included in the first merit list.

Documents to Prepare for the Next Stage

Candidates selected in the merit list will be called for document verification at their respective Regional Division Head Offices. Prepare the following documents in advance:

  • Passport-size photograph
  • Aadhaar Card and PAN Card
  • Email ID
  • Class 10 mark sheet
  • Caste certificate (SC/ST/OBC/EWS – central)
  • PwD certificate (if applicable)
  • Income certificate
  • NOC certificate (for currently employed candidates)
