Deshal Dan Charan’s journey from a humble village in Rajasthan to becoming an IAS officer is a story of grit, perseverance, and unwavering determination. Born into a poor family in Sumalai village, Deshal’s early life was shaped by hardship, but also by the inspiring vision of his father, Kushaldan Charan, who ran a small tea stall to support the family of ten. Despite limited means, Kushaldan prioritized his children’s education, even taking loans to ensure they received proper schooling.
Overcoming Personal Tragedy
Tragedy struck when Deshal’s elder brother, serving in the Indian Navy, died in a submarine accident while Deshal was in 10th grade. The loss devastated the family, yet his father remained a pillar of support, encouraging the children to pursue their dreams. From a young age, Deshal aspired to become an IAS officer.
Engineering Ambitions and IIT Success
After completing his 12th grade, Deshal decided to pursue engineering. He prepared rigorously for the JEE Main exam and succeeded on his first attempt. He earned his engineering degree from IIT Jabalpur, demonstrating academic excellence and perseverance. While he could have opted for a lucrative corporate career, his dream of joining the civil services remained unfulfilled.
Cracking UPSC on First Attempt
Determined to realize his ambition, Deshal moved to Delhi to prepare for the UPSC Civil Services Examination. With focused preparation and relentless effort, he cleared the exam in 2017, securing an impressive 82nd rank on his first attempt. This achievement fulfilled his lifelong dream of becoming an IAS officer and marked the beginning of a promising career in public service.

Deshal’s story embodies the power of hard work, resilience, and parental support. As he often says, “Today’s effort becomes tomorrow’s history; dedication is the true measure of success.” His journey from a tea stall in a small village to the corridors of power is a testament to determination overcoming adversity.
