Following the declaration of the UPSC Civil Services Mains Result 2025, the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is now preparing for the interview round. A total of 2,736 candidates have qualified for the UPSC interview. For aspirants aiming for government services, it is essential to understand the nuances of the interview process, including language options.
Can a Candidate Take the Interview in a Different Language than Mains?
Yes. Candidates who have taken the UPSC Civil Services Mains exam in English, Hindi, or any other language may choose a different language for the interview, provided it is one of the languages listed in the Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution.
Official Rule
According to UPSC guidelines, candidates who opted for an Indian language medium for their written Mains exam may choose English, Hindi, or the same Indian language for the interview. Similarly, candidates who wrote Mains in English are allowed to select Hindi or any other Indian language as the medium for their interview. Several aspirants in the past have successfully taken Mains in English and the interview in Hindi or another Indian language.
Important: Language Choice Must Be Finalized in DAF-II
Candidates must indicate their interview language in the UPSC Detailed Application Form (DAF)-II. The choice of interview language can be made while filling this form. After submission, changing the interview language is not permitted.
