UP Teacher Recruitment Scam: Allahabad High Court Orders Verification of All Assistant Teachers’ Documents

Lucknow: The Allahabad High Court has ordered a comprehensive verification of documents of all assistant teachers in Uttar Pradesh after a recent case exposed fraudulent recruitment practices. The court has given the state six months to complete the process, warning that appointments based on fake documents will be canceled and salaries recovered.

The order follows the dismissal of Deoria-based assistant teacher Garima Singh, who had been teaching for 15 years. The Basic Education Officer (BSA) had canceled her appointment in August 2025, alleging that her educational and residency certificates were forged. Garima challenged the decision in court, but the high court ruled against her, terming the recruitment irregularities part of a larger corruption pattern.

Justice Manju Rani Chauhan, in a stern observation, noted repeated instances where large numbers of assistant teachers secured jobs using fake documents, sometimes with the collusion or negligence of responsible officials. The court emphasized that such lapses not only promote fraud but also jeopardize students’ futures.

Under the court’s directive, the state government must examine all assistant teachers’ credentials within six months. Teachers found to have obtained jobs fraudulently will have their appointments canceled immediately, and their salaries recovered. Officials found negligent or complicit in these irregularities will face strict action.
