UP Home Guard Recruitment: CM Yogi Announces Priority for “Disaster Friends”

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has made a significant announcement regarding the ongoing Home Guard recruitment, stating that “Disaster Friends” (Aapda Mitra) will be given priority in the selection process. The training for these volunteers will also be provided if required. Currently, the state is recruiting 45,000 Home Guards.

Focus on Disaster Preparedness
The announcement came following a state-wide blackout and mock drill conducted on 23 January across 75 districts. Addressing the public after the drill, CM Yogi highlighted the importance of disaster-ready volunteers. He said, “The recruitment process for ‘Disaster Friends’ through SDRF is being accelerated. Volunteers serving as Disaster Friends will receive priority in the Home Guard selection process.”

Training as First Responders
The Chief Minister further explained that selected Home Guards will be trained as Disaster Friends to assist in relief operations as first responders. He emphasized the importance of regular mock drills for emergencies, including fires in high-rise buildings, floods, accidents, or other natural disasters. CM Yogi noted that citizen safety organizations are no longer limited to peaceful times or festival traffic management—they play a crucial role in maintaining public order even in wartime-like conditions.
