The United States hosts some of the world’s most sought-after employers, attracting young professionals eager to grow their careers. Today, success for many graduates is no longer just about reaching leadership positions—it’s also about learning, enjoying work, and maintaining work-life balance.
According to Deloitte’s 2025 survey of Generation Z (born 1997–2012) and Millennials, only 6% of Gen Z prioritize reaching top leadership roles. Most young professionals now value personal growth, meaningful work, and flexibility over climbing the corporate ladder.
Which companies do U.S. graduate students prefer?
Forbes conducted a survey of 10,000 college students and 140,000 employees, analyzing factors such as salary, job flexibility, and professional development. The results reveal the top five companies where graduates aspire to work:
- NVIDIA – Semiconductor, Electronics, and Electrical Engineering
- St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital – Healthcare and Social Services
- Microsoft – IT Software and Services
- Google – IT Software and Services
- Universal Music Group – Media and Advertising
Students are drawn to these companies not just for their brand reputation, but for the purposeful and fulfilling work they offer. Many believe that a career in these firms, especially in the tech sector, allows them to achieve professional goals and long-term financial stability.
These trends show a shift in priorities among young U.S. professionals, who now seek balance, learning opportunities, and meaningful careers rather than only leadership titles.
