Success Story: Haryana Girl Quits PhD, Studies 8–10 Hours Daily, Tops UPPCS to Become SDM

For aspirants of civil services, the story of Sangeeta Raghav from Haryana is truly inspiring. Driven by her dream of becoming a Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), she quit her PhD and dedicated herself to preparing for the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPCS) exams, eventually securing Rank 2.

Journey to Success

Sangeeta’s journey demonstrates that achieving big dreams requires hard work and focused effort. She initially studied for 5–6 hours a day, but later increased her routine to 8–10 hours daily. Her first attempt at the UPPCS exam in 2017 ended in failure, but she persevered, intensified her preparation, and achieved remarkable success in 2018.

Commitment to Civil Services

Her unwavering determination to join civil services led her to leave her PhD program at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) and fully concentrate on UPPCS preparation. She also gained valuable experience working on a World Bank project in collaboration with the South Asian Institute and received scholarships to support her higher studies.

Academic Background

Sangeeta completed her Bachelor’s in Gurugram and earned her Master’s degree from Indraprastha University, Delhi.

Family Background

Originally from Shanti Nagar, Gurugram, Haryana, Sangeeta hails from a supportive family. Her father is a retired officer of the Indian Navy, and her mother is a homemaker.

Today, Sangeeta Raghav serves as an SDM, proving that dedication, perseverance, and strategic effort can turn dreams into reality.
