SSC GD Exam 2026 Postponed: Major Changes in Slot Booking

The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has officially postponed the GD Constable Exam 2026, originally scheduled to begin on 23 February 2026. Candidates who were expecting the exam this month will now have to wait for new dates, which will be announced in due course. The official notice is available on the SSC website ssc.gov.in.

Changes in Slot Booking Facility

In addition to the postponement, the SSC has introduced a significant change regarding the slot booking process. Unlike previous exams where candidates could select their preferred exam city, this facility will not be available for the GD Exam 2026. SSC will now assign exam centers to candidates at its discretion. This marks a major departure from past practices, though it remains unclear whether this change applies only to this exam or will extend to future SSC exams as well.

Official Notice Highlights

The notice states:

“The Computer-Based Examination 2026 for Constables in CAPFs & SSF and Riflemen (GD) in Assam Rifles, originally scheduled from 23 February 2026 as per SSC Notice HQ-EC 033/7/2025-2 January 2026, is hereby postponed until further notice. The new dates will be announced in due course. Furthermore, the exam city selection facility will not be applicable for this examination.”

Admit Cards and Exam City Slips

Candidates will receive their exam city slips 8–10 days before the exam, and admit cards will be available for download 2–3 days prior.

Reason for Postponement

The SSC GD Exam is likely postponed due to overlap with the SSC MTS Exam, conducted from 4 February to 19 February 2026. Some exam centers had to cancel or reschedule other exams, creating logistical challenges. Considering this, the SSC GD Exam is now expected to take place in March 2026, though official confirmation is pending.

Impact on Candidates

Candidates should regularly check the SSC website for updated exam dates and instructions. The change in slot booking means students will have less control over exam city allocation, requiring flexibility and careful planning in preparation.
