Security Guard’s Daughter Becomes Indian Army Officer at 22, Creates History for Naga Community

From a small village in Manipur to the prestigious ranks of the Indian Army, C. Enoni has scripted a remarkable story of courage, determination, and perseverance. At just 22 years of age, Enoni has become an officer in the Indian Army, making history as the first woman from the Mao Naga community to wear the Army uniform.

Hailing from Ralunamei village in Manipur, Enoni successfully completed her training at the Officers Training Academy (OTA), Chennai, and was commissioned after the Passing Out Parade (POP) in December 2025. Her achievement has brought immense pride not only to her family but also to her community and a state that has witnessed years of struggle and challenges.

First Woman from Mao Naga Community to Join the Army

Enoni belongs to the Mao Naga tribe, a Naga community primarily residing in northern parts of Manipur’s Senapati district, bordering Nagaland. Known for their bamboo-and-mud houses and rich traditional attire, the Mao Naga community has a population of over one lakh. Enoni is the first woman from this community to be commissioned as an officer in the Indian Army.

Father Works as a Security Guard

Enoni’s journey becomes even more inspiring considering her background. Her father, a former Army soldier, now works as a security guard to support a family of eight after retirement. Despite financial constraints, he stood firmly behind his daughter’s dreams, while Enoni remained focused on her goal of serving the nation.

Dream Took Shape in Class 8

The youngest among six siblings, Enoni’s childhood was marked by hardships. However, her determination never wavered. She dreamt of joining the Army while studying in Class 8, when the National Cadet Corps (NCC) opened doors for girls to join its ranks. She became part of the NCC during her school days and later moved to Delhi to join the NCC Senior Wing, preparing herself rigorously for a career in the armed forces.
