
Due to severe cold, dense fog, and low visibility, schools across North India are seeing an extension of winter vacations. Many districts in Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Bihar have issued orders to either extend school closures or adjust school timings.
Here are the latest updates:
Rajasthan:
Hanumangarh district schools from Nursery to Class 5 will remain closed until 17 January 2026. Classes from 6th to 12th will continue as scheduled. The decision was taken by the District Collector following weather advisories predicting rain and cold waves.
Noida (Gautam Buddh Nagar):
Schools up to Class 8 will remain closed until 17 January 2026. The orders apply to government, aided, and municipal schools, while private schools are making independent decisions regarding winter break extension and adjusted school timings.
Uttar Pradesh – 6 Districts:
In Bijnor, Bareilly, Badaun, Muzaffarnagar, Saharanpur, and Pilibhit, schools up to Class 8 will remain closed until 18 January 2026 due to severe cold and harsh winds. Schools will reopen on 19 January.
Prayagraj (UP):
Schools for students up to Class 12 will remain closed until 20 January 2026. This order was issued by District Magistrate Manish Kumar Verma and signed by District School Inspector P.N. Singh.
Chandigarh:
All government and private schools will remain closed until 17 January 2026. Parents and students are advised to verify updates from their respective schools or district authorities.
Punjab:
Due to increasing cold and fog, the school timings have been shortened from 16 to 21 January 2026. Primary schools will operate from 10 AM to 3 PM.
Delhi:
So far, no official announcement has been made regarding further extensions beyond the winter vacation scheduled from 1 January to 15 January 2026. Schools are expected to reopen on 16 January 2026, but students and parents are advised to check official notifications.
Haryana:
Winter vacation has been extended until 19 January 2026.
Parents and students are urged to regularly check official school notices and district administration updates, as closures and adjusted timings may change depending on weather conditions.
