RRB Group D 2026: Application Process for 22,000 Vacancies Postponed, New Dates Announced

NEW DELHI: The Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) has postponed the application process for its Group D recruitment 2026, which involves filling approximately 22,000 vacancies across various zones and departments of Indian Railways. The process was originally scheduled to begin on 21 January 2026. The board has now announced revised dates for applications on its official website.

Important Dates for RRB Group D 2026:

  • Start of Application: 31 January 2026
  • Last Date to Apply: 2 March 2026 (11:59 PM)
  • Advertisement Number: CEN 09/2025

The notification for Group D recruitment was released on 27 December 2025, detailing vacancies across multiple positions such as Track Maintainer (Grade IV), Assistant (S&T), Assistant (C&W), Assistant (TRD), Assistant (Track Machine), Assistant (Bridge), Assistant (P-Way), Assistant Operations, and Assistant Loco Shed, among others.

Vacancy Distribution:
Out of the total 22,000 vacancies, the majority are in the Engineering department with 12,500 approved positions. Track Maintainer (Grade IV) alone accounts for 11,000 posts. Other key posts include:

  • Traffic Point B: 5,000
  • Assistant (S&T): 1,500
  • Assistant (C&W): 1,000
  • Assistant (TRD): 800
  • Assistant (Track Machine) & Assistant (Bridge): 600 each
  • Assistant (P-Way): 300
  • Assistant Operations: 500
  • Assistant Loco Shed: 200

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Educational Qualification: The detailed notification regarding required qualifications will be released shortly. Candidates are advised to check official updates. ITI or Class 10 qualifications are expected to be required.
  • Age Limit: 18–33 years. OBC candidates get a 3-year relaxation, while SC/ST candidates get 5 years.

Selection Process:
The selection will involve a single-stage Computer-Based Test (CBT) followed by a Physical Efficiency Test (PET), document verification, and medical examination. The CBT will last 90 minutes with 100 questions and negative marking of one-third for incorrect answers. For PET, three times the number of vacancies will be called.

Application Process:
Candidates can apply through the official RRB portal rrbapply.gov.in. Steps include:

  1. Register using the “New Registration” link with basic details including name, date of birth, parents’ names, Aadhaar number, Class 10 marks, email, and mobile number.
  2. Log in using registration number and password to complete application details.
  3. Upload photograph and signature, pay application fee, and submit the form.
  4. Take a printout of the final application for future reference.

Important Notes:

  • Candidates must apply to only one RRB. Multiple applications for different RRBs will be rejected. However, multiple posts within the same RRB can be applied for using a single application.
  • Application Fee: ₹500 for General, OBC, and EWS candidates. ₹400 will be refunded upon appearing in the CBT.
  • Pay Scale: Selected candidates will receive an initial pay of ₹18,000 under Level-1 of the 7th CPC Pay Matrix.
  • Candidates are advised to ensure their Aadhaar details are updated, including photo and biometric information, to avoid delays during verification.

RRB has urged candidates to stay updated via the official website for any further notifications related to Group D recruitment 2026.
