Success in the tech industry is not restricted to graduates of prestigious institutions like IITs or NITs. Sagar Kumar, a young software engineer from Gurugram, Haryana, has proven that perseverance, skill, and self-belief can overcome all obstacles. Despite facing over 500 job rejections, Sagar has secured a high-paying position at Google with an annual package of ₹40 lakh.
Journey from Sharda University to TCS:
Sagar completed his B.Tech in Computer Science from Sharda University in 2021. After graduation, he applied to several tech companies but initially faced rejection after rejection. His first job came through Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) via the TCS Ninja program, with an annual salary of ₹3.3 lakh. After successfully completing the TCS Digital Capability Assessment, he was promoted, raising his salary to ₹7.4 lakh per year.
Learning from Rejections and Skill Improvement:
Despite continuous setbacks, Sagar did not give up. He realized he needed to strengthen his skills in Data Structures & Algorithms (DSA) and competitive programming. He worked on his development and problem-solving abilities, sought guidance and referrals from industry experts on LinkedIn, and practiced through mock interviews to refine his resume and enhance his talent.
Breakthrough at Google:
After nine months of persistent effort and continuous learning, Sagar got a call from a Google recruiter. Though he initially failed the screening, he persevered. With another referral in March 2025, he cleared all interview rounds and finally secured his dream job at Google, earning a ₹40 lakh annual package—a 500% increase from his starting salary at TCS.
Message for Aspiring Professionals:
Sagar Kumar’s journey proves that determination, skill enhancement, and never giving up can help achieve extraordinary success, regardless of the college you graduate from. Hard work, patience, and the willingness to learn can turn even the toughest challenges into career milestones.
