
The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has officially released the tentative examination dates for two of India’s most important postgraduate medical entrance examinations—NEET PG 2026 and NEET MDS 2026. With the announcement of the examination calendar, medical and dental graduates can now begin structured preparation for the upcoming computer-based tests.
Exam Dates and Internship Deadlines
According to the notification issued by NBEMS, the NEET MDS 2026 examination is scheduled to be held on May 2, 2026, while the NEET PG 2026 examination will take place on August 30, 2026.
The board has also specified the deadlines for completion of mandatory internships, which are a key eligibility requirement:

Computer-Based Examination Mode
Both NEET PG 2026 and NEET MDS 2026 will be conducted in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode across designated examination centers throughout the country. With the exams being held online, candidates are advised to focus on digital preparation strategies, including online mock tests and CBT-style practice sessions.
Eligibility Criteria
To appear for NEET PG 2026, candidates must hold an MBBS degree from a recognized institution. For NEET MDS 2026, applicants must possess a BDS degree. In addition, completion of a one-year compulsory internship within the prescribed timeline is mandatory.
Candidates must also be registered with the National Medical Commission (NMC) for medical courses or the Dental Council of India (DCI) for dental courses, as applicable.
Purpose of NEET PG and NEET MDS
The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test–Postgraduate (NEET PG) is conducted for admission to MD, MS, and PG Diploma courses in medical colleges across India. Similarly, NEET MDS serves as the single entrance examination for admission to Master of Dental Surgery (MDS) programs.
