NEET 2026 LIVE: Notification, Application Dates, Exam, and Required Documents

New Delhi: The much-awaited NEET UG 2026 (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test – Undergraduate) is approaching, and millions of aspiring medical students across India are gearing up for the exam. The National Testing Agency (NTA) is expected to release the official notification for NEET UG 2026 soon on its website neet.nta.nic.in, along with the application form. Students are advised to keep all necessary documents ready in advance.

Key Highlights for NEET 2026:

Number of Candidates:
Every year, over 20 lakh students appear for NEET UG. Registrations have steadily increased over the last five years:

  • 2025 – 23 lakh
  • 2024 – 24.06 lakh
  • 2023 – 20.87 lakh
  • 2022 – 18.72 lakh
  • 2021 – 16.14 lakh
  • 2020 – 15.97 lakh

Increase in MBBS Seats:
Dr. Abhijat Seth, Chairman of the National Medical Commission (NMC), stated that over 11,000 additional MBBS seats were added in 2025-26, taking the total to 1.29 lakh. The government plans to increase medical seats by 75,000 over the next five years.

Courses Covered by NEET UG:
NEET scores are used for admission into:

  • MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery)
  • BDS (Dental)
  • BSc Nursing
  • BAMS (Ayurveda)
  • BHMS (Homeopathy)
  • BUMS (Unani)
  • BSMS (Siddha Medicine)

Exam Date:
In recent years, NEET UG has typically been held on the first Sunday of May:

  • 2025 – May 4
  • 2024 – May 5
  • 2023 – May 7
    Following this pattern, NEET UG 2026 is likely to be conducted on May 3, 2026 (Sunday), though the official date is yet to be announced.

Syllabus Update:
The NMC released the updated NEET UG 2026 syllabus on January 8, 2026. Students, coaching institutes, and other stakeholders have been advised to prepare study materials based on the revised syllabus.

Application Timeline:
Historically, NEET UG applications are open for about one month after notification:

  • 2025 – Feb 7 to Mar 7
  • 2024 – Feb 9 to Mar 9
  • 2023 – Mar 6 to Apr 6
    The NEET UG 2026 application form is expected to be released along with the notification, likely in the first week of February 2026.

Documents Students Must Update:
The NTA has advised candidates to ensure the following documents are correct and updated:

  1. Aadhaar Card: Verify name, date of birth, gender, photo, address, and biometric details.
  2. UDID Card: Required for candidates applying under the Persons with Disabilities quota.
  3. Category Certificate: Essential for candidates seeking EWS, OBC-NCL, SC, or ST reservations. The certificate must be valid and uploaded with the application form.
