In a remarkable tale of perseverance and determination, Jiya, a young woman from Rewari district in Haryana, has cracked the UPSC NDA exam and returned as a commissioned officer in the Indian Army, topping her entire district. Her story is a shining example of how hard work, family support, and resilience can overcome any obstacle.
Humble Beginnings
Jiya comes from the village of Sulkha in Bawal, Rewari. Her father, Mohan Lal, drives an auto-rickshaw, and her mother, Rekha Devi, is a homemaker. Despite financial constraints, Mohan Lal ensured that all three of his children—Jiya, Parul, and Himanshu—received a good education. The family relied solely on the modest income from the auto business to support their household of five.
Education in a Government School
Jiya’s journey proves that success is not limited to those who study in elite private schools. She completed her education up to 12th grade at Government Senior Secondary School, Sulkha, demonstrating that dedication and self-belief can pave the way to extraordinary achievements.
Determined to Join the Army
After finishing her 12th grade, Jiya decided to pursue her dream of joining the Indian Army. She began preparing for the UPSC National Defence Academy (NDA) exam, dedicating 15 hours a day to her studies. She even attended coaching in Gurgaon for a period of time. Despite facing health challenges, Jiya never wavered in her determination.
District Topper and Commissioned Officer
In the 2024 NDA exam, Jiya secured the top rank in her district. Upon returning to her village as a Lieutenant, her homecoming was celebrated with great enthusiasm. A reception was organized at the local school, and her parents and grandfather were visibly moved, tears of pride shining in their eyes.
Jiya credits her family’s unwavering support for her success, emphasizing that their encouragement made her journey possible. Her story sends a powerful message: daughters, given equal respect and opportunity, can achieve as much as sons—and bring honor to their families, communities, and the nation.
