JEE Main 2026 Topper: Shreyas Mishra Achieves 100 Percentile Despite One Wrong Answer

Shreyas Mishra from Delhi has emerged as the JEE Main 2026 Session-1 topper, scoring a 100 percentile and securing All India Rank 1 (AIR-1), even though he got one question wrong and skipped another. The National Testing Agency (NTA) announced the results on the evening of 16 February. Over 13 lakh candidates appeared for the national-level engineering entrance exam, and 12 students scored a perfect 100 percentile.

The Unexpected Topper

After checking his paper at home, Shreyas admitted he did not expect to top the exam. “I didn’t anticipate a 100 percentile because I had one wrong answer and left one question blank. But the paper was tough, and somehow I still scored at the top. It was a huge surprise,” he said.

Passion for Math Since Class 6

Shreyas developed a keen interest in mathematics in Class 6, exploring advanced topics early on. By Class 9 and 10, he was fascinated by physics and chemistry, studying chapters beyond his grade. He formally began JEE preparation in Class 11 and attended coaching classes. Reflecting on preparation, he said, “Time management is important, though I admit I didn’t always follow it myself.”

Tips from the Topper

For aspirants aiming to crack JEE, Shreyas emphasizes depth and consistent practice:

  • Clear Concepts: Understand both the mathematical and analytical aspects of each topic. Begin with NCERT books, then move to additional study material.
  • Practice Relentlessly: He extensively used mock tests to boost his scores.
  • Stay Calm: Take breaks while studying. Listening to classical music helped him manage stress and stay focused.

Avoiding Social Media Distractions

Shreyas maintains distance from social media during preparation. “I spent a lot of time on YouTube in Classes 9 and 10. Currently, I don’t have any social media apps. I even blocked YouTube to avoid distraction,” he said with a smile.

Future Plans

A student of Kulaachi Hansraj School, Shreyas plans to attempt JEE Advanced but is currently focused on board exams. He hopes to pursue engineering in Electrical or Computer Science fields.
