India-EU FTA Deal to Make Study and Work in Europe Easier for Indians

Europe: A landmark agreement between India and the European Union (EU), being called the “Mother of All Deals,” is set to make studying and working in Europe significantly easier for Indian students and professionals. The deal includes a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) along with a Mobility Framework, aimed at facilitating talent-based collaboration between India and the 27 EU member countries.

Benefits for Indian Students:

  • Unrestricted Mobility: Unlike other countries that impose limits, the EU has committed to allowing Indian students to move freely for education, making admissions in EU universities simpler.
  • Support Hub: A dedicated support system will assist students with admission procedures, travel, and settling in EU countries.
  • Post-Study Work Opportunities: Graduates will have better work visa options, enabling internships and entry-level jobs without leaving Europe immediately.
  • Dual Degree Programs: Students may soon enroll in programs that allow part of their degree to be completed in India and the remainder in Europe, earning internationally recognized qualifications.

Benefits for Indian Workers:

  • Professional Entry: The deal opens doors for Indian professionals and contract service providers, especially in IT, engineering, and higher education, to work more easily in EU countries.
  • Family-Friendly Mobility: Indian employees can now bring family members, reducing personal constraints for long-term assignments in Europe.
  • Digital Services: IT professionals can provide services to European clients remotely, expanding income opportunities.

EU Perspective:
Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, stated that the agreement will ease movement for students and researchers and strengthen Indian participation in Europe’s workforce. India will also be linked with Horizon Europe, creating new opportunities in healthcare, clean energy, AI, and emerging technologies for Indian institutions, startups, and scientists.

This agreement is expected to be a major milestone in boosting India-Europe educational and professional exchanges while creating a favorable environment for talent mobility.
