IKS Internship Programme 2026-27: Apply Now for Research Funding Up to ₹20 Lakh

The University Grants Commission (UGC), under the Ministry of Education, has announced the Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) Institutional Internship Programme 2026-27. Under this initiative, selected research projects can receive funding of up to ₹20 lakh over two years. Young scholars and researchers with an interest in Indian knowledge traditions are encouraged to apply.

Objective of the IKS Internship Programme
According to the official website iksindia.org, the programme aims to encourage young researchers to explore India’s rich heritage and knowledge systems. It is designed for students and early-career researchers interested in fields such as philosophy, science, mathematics, architecture, linguistics, arts, culture, and indigenous technologies.

Who Can Apply?
The programme supports young scientists in initiating research projects related to IKS. Selected candidates will be paired with recognized institutions, research centers, or mentors working in the IKS domain.

Programme Timeline
Applicants can undertake research during summer breaks or throughout the academic year, depending on the institution’s guidelines and project scope. Key dates are as follows:

  • Proposal Submission Deadline: 30 January 2026
  • Award Announcement & Project Start: 27 February 2026
  • Funding Release: 15 April 2026
  • Progress Report: 1 July 2026
  • Mid-term Review: 31 August 2026
  • Annual Progress Report: 29 January 2027
  • Final Report Submission: 31 March 2028

Selection Process and Funding
The programme will fund 20 research proposals. Proposals will undergo a peer-review process, and selected projects can receive a maximum funding of ₹20 lakh over two years.
