IIM Fees ₹25 Lakh, Harvard $180,000… But Which One Pays Higher Packages? Students Share Insights

New Delhi: A growing number of students are opting for MBA programs abroad, often driven by the promise of higher salaries. But how do the costs and post-graduation packages compare between India’s top business schools and the world’s best?

For students planning to pursue an MBA abroad, this question is crucial: How much will it cost, and what kind of salary can one expect after graduation? In India, the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIM Ahmedabad) is widely regarded as the best MBA destination, while Harvard Business School (HBS) in the United States is considered a global benchmark for business education.

Students Share Their Experiences
A video circulating on Instagram features two MBA graduates sharing a comparative perspective. Abhijay Arora, an HBS alumnus, and Kushal Lodha, an IIM Ahmedabad graduate, explain the differences between the two institutions. They discuss tuition fees, course duration, and the salary packages students receive after completing their programs, providing valuable insights for aspirants.

Fees and Salary Packages
According to the students, the cost of an MBA at Harvard University is approximately $200,000 (around ₹1.8 crore), while IIM Ahmedabad offers a similar degree for about ₹25 lakh. Post-MBA salary packages, however, show a stark contrast. IIM Ahmedabad graduates earn an average annual package of ₹34 lakh, whereas Harvard graduates typically secure packages of $250,000 (around ₹2.25 crore). Internship earnings also differ significantly, with IIM students earning ₹2–3 lakh and Harvard students earning up to $10,000 (around ₹9 lakh).

Similarities Between IIM and Harvard
Despite the differences, there are several similarities. Both IIM Ahmedabad and Harvard Business School offer a two-year MBA program. Graduates from both institutions often find opportunities in private equity, venture capital, project management, human resources, and other corporate fields.

Conclusion
While Harvard offers higher post-MBA earnings, IIM Ahmedabad remains a highly cost-effective option, delivering quality education at a fraction of the cost. Ultimately, the choice depends on financial considerations, career goals, and the student’s personal preferences.
