“Going to Australia Feels Like Falling into a Trap”: Indian Worker Shares Her Experience on Work-Life Balance and Safety

Australia has long been a dream destination for many Indians seeking better job opportunities, higher education, or an improved quality of life. However, understanding the country’s work culture is essential before moving, as the reality can be surprising.

A social media user named Akanksha recently shared her experience of working in Australia. According to her, moving to Australia felt like falling into a “trap”—but in a positive sense. She discovered what true work-life balance means and appreciated the country’s high safety standards, clean environment, and ample personal time.

Trapped in the Australian Dream
In a humorous Instagram video, Akanksha warned her followers about the “trap” of moving to Australia. She said, “No one tells you this, but going to Australia is like falling into a trap. I thought I would come here, get a well-paying job, and live comfortably. But within six months, I realized I was already caught in this trap.”

Life in Australia: Luxury Becomes Normal
Akanksha explained how her daily routine changed after moving to Australia. She wakes up at 6 AM, goes to the gym, and even enjoys walking 10 kilometers for leisure with her partner. What she considered luxury life in India—safety, peace, good work culture, and financial stability—is standard in Australia.

She said, “The work motivation here is natural. I never thought that what I saw as luxury in India—quiet surroundings, free time, financial stability, and a supportive work culture—would be normal here. Weekends truly feel like weekends, and taking sick leave doesn’t require excuses.”

Safety, Freedom, and a Balanced Life
Akanksha highlighted the freedom to walk safely at night, enjoy quality food, breathe clean air, and explore the city without worries. She described the lifestyle as peaceful, secure, and energizing. “I’ve gotten used to this life here. Honestly, I don’t think I can ever leave. It’s a life far better than I ever imagined. That’s why I call it a trap—because once you experience it, you don’t want to leave.”

For many aspiring Indian workers, Akanksha’s story is a reminder that while moving abroad may seem daunting, Australia offers a unique combination of work-life balance, safety, and quality of life that is difficult to match elsewhere.
